As part of the Kenan Center Spring Seminar Series, we came together for a seminar titled “Ahmet Yatman’s Musical Legacy and a School of Kanun Performance.”

This seminar offered a comprehensive exploration of the musical life and artistic legacy of Ahmet Yatman (d. 1973), one of the leading kanun virtuosos of twentieth-century Turkish music. Throughout the program, particular attention was given to Yatman’s musical training and the meşk environments in which he was formed, emphasizing his place within the meşk tradition through a lineage-based narrative.
