This seminar explores how the idea of justice is addressed in religious, moral, and Sufi mesnevis written in the sixteenth century, one of the most productive periods of classical Turkish literature. Within this rich narrative world built through stories, issues such as divine justice, human justice, the responsibility of rulers, social order, and the protection of rights are reconsidered through noteworthy examples.

While shedding light on the mesnevi tradition of the period, Dr. Esin Tümer will also demonstrate how these stories established a strong moral and intellectual foundation within the Ottoman cultural world. In this respect, the seminar offers a valuable opportunity to see how literature and life, narrative and morality come together around the idea of justice.
