As part of the Kenan Center Spring Seminar Series, we came together with Dr. Omneya Ayad for a seminar titled “The Concept of Fakr in Niyâzî Mısrî’s Thought.”

The program explored the intellectual world of Niyâzî Mısrî (d. 1694), one of the most influential Sufi poets of seventeenth-century Ottoman Sufism, through his important work Mevâidü’l-irfân. The seminar examined the layers of meaning associated with fakr (spiritual poverty), one of the central concepts of Sufism, tracing its development from the early Sufis to Mısrî.
